CIPD Spring 2010 Law on Tour
The Big Three...
Conduct, performance, attendance
The 2008/09 Acas Annual Report shows that there were 52,711 unfair dismissal claims made during that period, a 29 per cent increase from the previous year.
The increase is no doubt due to employers making more job cuts over that period and dismissed employees subsequently being unable to secure alternative employment.
The current uncertainty in the employment market is, therefore, exposing employers to unfair dismissal claims in two ways. Firstly, employees’ inability to find other employment is in some cases forcing them into making claims that they would not ordinarily make. Secondly, where a claim is successful at employment tribunal, employment judges may award higher levels of compensation as they will assess that individuals will be unemployed for a longer period before finding another job.
With this in mind, the CIPD Spring Law on Tour will give you the perfect opportunity to positively influence the impact that current employment tribunal claim trends may have on your organisation.
The tour will review, in depth, conduct/performance and attendance to ensure that your organisation has robust and fair procedures. In addition, as fair and appropriate investigations are crucial to evidencing fair process and achieving a fair dismissal, the workshop will take a practical ‘how to do’ approach to conducting an investigation.
To ensure that you do not have to book on another law update the workshop will also provide a comprehensive case law and legislation round-up.
